It isn’t what you think!
Here’s the deal tho.
If you’re uncomfortable posting on social media, let me offer you a little tip:
Your social media is actually not about you at all.
In fact, your social media content should be about your client.
About what your client needs to know to confidently make a decision about you—whether to follow you, to save or comment on your post, to call or DM you, and ultimately, whether or not to work with you or buy from you.
What your social media should be about is WAY easier than you’ve been led to believe!
Instagram, et al are platforms for starting conversations with your clients about how you can more effectively serve them. About how you can make their lives easier/ better/ more fun/ more relaxing/ more whatever-that-promise-is-that-you’re-actually-selling. ✨
Here’s a few ways to serve your clients with content that won’t involve blood, sweat, or tears (or therapy)…
- Can you serve them with inspiration? Yep.
- Can you serve them with education? Certainly.
- Can you serve them with entertainment? Yassss girl.
What I want you to takeaway here is that your social media is about your clients, your customers, and your audience.
Not you. (Whew!?)
It’s about what’s weighing on their mind when they’re thinking about hiring you to design their home, to photograph their special moments, or to answer their questions about what it’s really like to hire a professional instead of doing it themselves.
It’s about relieving their fears and anxieties around the cost, time, or effort required to accomplish whatever it is that you’re going to help them with.
Focus on creating value first (and you betcha that inspiration and entertainment are valuable!) and then educate them on how you can work together. Educate them on why they should work with you, and what transformations might be possible with that magical product or service that only you can deliver for them! ✨
Effective marketing for your brand is about making the right content and finding the right way to distribute it. And until there’s another broadcast channel that can more effectively reach millions of potential new audiences at little to no cost, then social media is the best way to educate, inspire, and entertain your clients about your brand’s ideology.
It really is that simple. ❤️
Exploring this dynamic between narrative and distribution is what I’ll teach you in my new 6-week course, Marketing School for Creatives. It’s MBA-level marketing education designed specifically for creatives who want to shine online.
Whether you’re running your own creative business or you’re a creative who’s found themself in a marketing role, this is the course I wish I’d had 10+ years ago when I started my own marketing career.
